Barbara Grunes and Virginia (Ginger) Van Vynckt are co-authors of nine cookbooks, including The Great Big Cookie Book (Prima, 1996; also issued under the title The Ultimate Cookie Cookbook), Very Merry Cookie Party (Chronicle Books, 2010) and Cookie Advent Cookbook (Chronicle Books, 2016). Many of the recipes on this site also appear in one of our cookie cookbooks.
Virginia is a writer and editor with a lifelong interest in food and cooking, especially baking. She was a food and nutrition reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times, where she wrote on topics ranging from (surprise) home cookie bakers to star-caliber chefs. She always found the home bakers more interesting than the professional chefs. While she’s a fine cook, baking is her first love. She bakes a mean cherry pie, makes at least a half dozen kinds of cookies every Christmas, and is the proud creator of one of the best molasses cookies on the planet.
Barbara has written an astounding number of cookbooks on all kinds of topics, including The Best Bake Sale Ever Cookbook, and is similarly afflicted with a sweet tooth and love of baking. One of her many claims to fame is a sugar cookie to die for.
Unless otherwise stated, all of the recipes and decorating projects on MakeGreatCookies.com are our original creations and have been tested in home kitchens. We think anyone who goes to the trouble to make cookies from scratch deserves great recipes that work.
