How you store cookies depends on whether they are soft, crisp, or in between. Most cookies keep well in either airtight containers or cookie jars; our recipes include storing instructions for each cookie.
There are two storage rules that apply to all cookies. The first is to make sure cookies are completely cool before storing them. If you don’t, the steam from the warm cookies will turn the whole batch soggy.
The second rule is to not store cookies of different types together. They’ll absorb flavors from each other, and the moisture from soft cookies will soften crisp cookies. Cookies with similar flavors and textures—for example, a chocolate chip cookie and a chocolate-nut drop cookie—can be stored together.
